Parliament to debate crucial FDI in retail today, SP, BSP keep Govt in suspense

Congress managers are on an overdrive. With just 48 hours left for voting on the FDI in multi-brand retail in the Lok Sabha, and both the SP and BSP keeping the government guessing, the party's political managers are busy stitching up individual deals with supporting parties, as well as fringe players and Indepenent MPs, to ensure defeat of the BJP-Left sponsored motion against foreign direct investment in retail.

The UPA government is counting on Mayawati-led BSP to support it.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, BSP supremo Mayawati hinted that she could bail out the government. While she made it clear that she was opposed to FDI in retail and it would harm the interests of farmers and retailers, she evaded a direct reply when asked if she would vote against it in Parliament.

BSP's concern 
BSP sources said they were more concerned about ensuring quota for promotion in job for SC/ST candidates and the government's need of their votes could be exploited to pass the Bill.

However, the vehement opposition to the Bill by the SP, which is opposed to FDI, but has like the BSP bailed out the UPA government on numerous occasions in Parliament, means that the Congress may not commit itself to the Bill at this juncture.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath has said the govt will win the floor test on FDI.

Meanwhile, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav also kept the government guessing and said his party would take a final decision only in Parliament. The SP and BSP have 22 and 21 MPs in Lok Sabha and nine and 15 MPs in the Rajya Sabha respectively. The UPA would need support from both parties if it has to avert an embarrassing defeat in the Upper House.

Soon after Mayawati expressed reservations on the FDI policy in its present form at a press conference, the government sought to keep her in good humour by declaring its commitment to SC/ST quotas in government jobs.

Asked about Mayawati's ambivalent stand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath said: "The government is committed to the Constitution amendment Bill."

Recalling that the government had itself brought the Bill in Parliament, he said: "It was introduced in the Rajya Sabha by us. It is listed by us as No. 1 in the list of business today (Monday)."

With the Left and the Right making a common cause on opposition to FDI, Nath sought to drive a wedge in the Opposition asking all political parties to reject the "politics of the BJP".

Elaborating his point, Nath said the vote in Parliament would not determine whether the FDI will be implemented in the states or not. "That is for the states to determine," he said.

Nath expressed confidence that the government will win the floor test in Parliament on the issue. In a veiled admission that the Congress has already managed its numbers, CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechury said: "The Congress knows how to manage votes." He cited the JMM bribery case and the cash-for-votes scam.

The government is sparing no effort to woo its allies and prospective partners to overcome the challenge posed by the anti-FDI resolution. Sources say that as part of this, the DMK is in line for allotment of land to build its party office in New Delhi.

चंद्रमा पर सब्जियां उगाने की योजना बना रहा चीन

बीजिंग। चीन के अंतरिक्षयात्री चंद्रमा और मंगल ग्रह पर सब्जियां उगाने की योजना बना रहे हैं। इससे अंतरिक्षयात्रियों को भोजन मिल सकेगा। इस संबंध में प्रयोगशाला में किए गए सफल परीक्षण के बाद एक अधिकारी ने यह जानकारी दी।

बीजिंग के चाइनीज एस्ट्रोनॉट रिसर्च एंड ट्रेनिंग सेंटर के उप निदेशक डेंग यिबिंग ने बताया कि हाल के परीक्षणों में मनुष्यों और पौधों के बीच ऑक्सीजन, कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड और जल के गतिशील संतुलित तंत्र पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया गया। चीन की सरकारी समाचार एजेंसी शिन्हुआ ने डेंग के हवाले से कहा है कि दोनों भागीदारों को हवा, जल और भोजन की आपूर्ति के लिए 300 घनमीटर का एक केबिन बनाया गया था। केबिन में रहने वाले दो लोगों के लिए कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड और ऑक्सीजन के प्रयोग से चार प्रकार की सब्जियां उगाई गई। डेंग ने कहा कि चीन में इस तरह का पहला परीक्षण देश के मानवयुक्त अंतरिक्ष मिशनों के लिए बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। केबिन का निर्माण 2011 में किया गया था। यह चीन में अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों के जीवन रक्षक तंत्र की तीसरी पीढ़ी का मॉडल है। इसका चंद्रमा और मंगल ग्रह पर प्रयोग किया जा सकता है। केबिन ए कंट्रोल्ड इकॉलॉजिकल लाइफ सपोर्ट सिस्टम [सीईएलएसएस] से अंतरिक्षयात्रियों को पर्याप्त मात्रा में हवा, जल और भोजन मिल सकता है

पोंटिंग ने भी माना, तेंदुलकर ही हैं सर्वश्रेष्ठ

सिडनी। क्रिकेट जगत के महान खिलाड़ियों में से एक रिकी पोंटिंग ने आज क्रिकेट जगत को अलविदा कह दिया और जाते-जाते वह एक ऐसी बात कह गए जिसने भारत में सचिन के करोड़ों फैंस के चेहरे पर मुस्कान बिखेर दी। पोंटिंग ने कहा कि उन्होंने दुनिया के जितने बल्लेबाजों के खिलाफ खेला उनमें सचिन से बढ़कर ना कोई हुआ है और ना कोई होगा। वहीं, वह हरभजन सिंह की तारीफ करने से भी नहीं कतराए।

आइआइटी बॉम्बे के स्टूडेंट को मिला 80 लाख का ऑफर

मुंबई। आइआइटी बॉम्बे ने एक बार फिर अपना नाम प्लेसमेंट के मुकाबले में अव्वल नंबर पर रखा है। हाल ही में हुए प्लेसमेंट इंटरव्यू के दौरान यहां के एक छात्र को सैमसंग कंपनी ने सालाना अस्सी लाख [डेढ़ लाख डॉलर] का ऑफर दिया है। यह ऑफर न सिर्फ यहां के छात्रों की काबलियत को बताने के लिए काफी है बल्कि इस क्षेत्र में भारत के दबदबे को भी बयान करता है।

आइआइटी बॉम्बे के श्रीराम भागवत को प्लेसमेंट इंटरव्यू के दौरान सेमसंग कंपनी ने अस्सी लाख का ऑफर देकर सभी आइआइटियंस के चेहरों पर खुशी ला दी है। प्लेसमेंट इंटरव्यू के दौरान अच्छे ऑफर में चुने गए भागवत यहां पर ऐसे अकेले स्टूडेंट नहीं हैं बल्कि इस लिस्ट में कुछ और नाम भी शुमार हैं। इंस्टिट्यूट ऑफ कंप्यूटर साइंस के आइआईटियन दिपांकर रेड्डी को रॉकेट फ्यूल एक कंपनी के लिए चुना गया है, वहीं कंप्यूटर साइंस के स्टूडेंट्स सागर चोरदिया और हसन को फेसबुक ने अपने लिए चुना है। गुजरात के हसन फेसबुक में फोटो डाउनलोडिंग के लिए काम करेंगे। सागर को इस पल के लिए चार फेज के इंटरव्यू से होकर गुजरना पड़ा।

अपने सिलेक्शन के बाद सागर और भागवत ने अपनी इस खुशी को फेसबुक के माध्यम से दूसरों के साथ शेयर भी किया। सोशल नेटवर्किंग साइट ने हसन और सागर को एक लाख बीस हजार डॉलर का ऑफर दिया है। सैमसंग इंडिया ने इस बार भारत से 160 प्रोफेशनल्स को चुनने का आंकड़ा तय किया है जबकि पिछली बार यह आंकड़ा 140 था। इसमें भी करीब एक दर्जन से ज्यादा प्रोफेशनल्स की प्लेसमेंट वह कर भी चुका है। आइआइटी के पवई कैंपस में जहां शनिवार को 35 कंपनियों ने अपने इंटरव्यू किए वहीं रविवार को 29 कंपनियां यहां पर आई। इस कैंपस से इंटरव्यू के लिए रजिस्टर्ड करवाने वालों की संख्या भी पहले के मुकाबले बढ़ गई है। पिछली साल जहां केवल 1200 छात्रों ने प्लेसमेंट इंटरव्यू के लिए रजिस्टर करवाया था वहीं इस बार यह आंकड़ा बढ़कर 1300 तक पहुंच गया है। दो दिन के इस प्लेसमेंट इंटरव्यू के दौरान कैंपस में अमेजन, ओरकल, एडोब समेत कई दूसरी दिग्गज कंपनियां आई थी

एफडीआइ पर कांग्रेस ने अपने सांसदों को जारी किया व्हिप

नई दिल्ली। रिटेल क्षेत्र में प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश [एफडीआइ] पर चार-पाच दिसंबर को लोकसभा में होने वाली चर्चा और उसके बाद मतदान को लेकर काग्रेस ने अपने सांसदों को व्हिप जारी किया है।

इस बारे में काग्रेस के एक वरिष्ठ नेता ने बताया कि व्हिप जारी कर पार्टी के सभी सासदों को चार और पाच दिसंबर को लोकसभा में मौजूद रहने को कहा गया है।

केंद्र की यूपीए सरकार का कहना है कि रिटेल क्षेत्र में 51 प्रतिशत एफडीआइ की अनुमति देने के विरोध में विपक्ष की ओर से लाए जाने वाले प्रस्ताव पर उसकी जीत होगी। एफडीआइ को लेकर पिछले दिनों संसद में काफी हंगामा हुआ। भाजपा एफडीआइ पर नियम 184 के तहत बहस और फिर वोटिंग पर अड़ी हुई थी। इस मुद्दे पर कुछ दिन संसद की कार्यवाही भी ठप रही। शुरू में सरकार नियम 184 के तहत बहस से इन्कार करती रही, लेकिन बाद में उसे झुकना पड़ा।

लश्कर के आका सईद के गले नहीं उतरा पाक मंत्री हिना का वादा

इस्लामाबाद। लश्कर के संस्थापक हाफिज मुहम्मद सईद ने पाकिस्तान की विदेश मंत्री हिना रब्बानी खार के उस बयान की आलोचना की जिसमें उन्होंने कहा है कि भारत की ओर से पर्याप्त सबूत उपलब्ध कराएं जाने के बाद उसके खिलाफ कार्रवाई की जाएगी। इतना ही नहीं सईद ने पाकिस्तान सरकार की आलोचना करते हुए कहा कि कश्मीर के मसले को सुलझाने में वह नाकाम रही हैं।

गौरतलब है कि सईद 2008 में मुबंई में हुए आतंकी हमले का मास्टरमाइंड है। हाफिज सईद ने कहा कि इस हमले से संबंधित जो भी सबूत भारत सरकार की ओर से सौंपे गए उन सभी को पाकिस्तान की कोर्ट ने खारिज कर दिया हैं।

सईद ने कहा कि मुबंई में हुए इस आतंकी हमले को चार साल बीत गए हैं बावजूद इसके भारत उसके खिलाफ कोई ऐसा साक्ष्य पेश नहीं कर पाई है जिससे यह साबित हो सके की उसका इस हमले में कोई हाथ था। सईद ने आगे कहा कि भारत की ओर से उपलब्ध किसी साक्ष्य को पाकिस्तान की कोर्ट द्वारा स्वीकार नहीं किया जा सका।

भारत के आरोपों पर सईद को हिरासत में लिया गया था लेकिन उसके खिलाफ सुबूतों को कोर्ट ने पर्याप्त नहीं माना। इस कारण उसे रिहा करना पड़ा। सईद इस समय जमात-उद-दावा [जेयूडी] का प्रमुख है। मुंबई हमले के बाद संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद ने जेयूडी को लश्कर का मुखौटा संगठन घोषित किया था। इसके बाद सईद को करीब छह महीने तक नजरबंद रखा गया था। लाहौर हाई कोर्ट के आदेश के बाद उसे रिहा कर दिया गया। बाद में लश्कर संस्थापक को पाकिस्तान में हुई घटनाओं को लेकर हिरासत में लिया गया। लेकिन सुबूतों के अभाव में उसे एक बार फिर छोड़ दिया गया। अमेरिका ने इसी वर्ष सईद पर एक करोड़ डॉलर [करीब 55 करोड़ रूपये] का इनाम घोषित किया है। इसके बावजूद वह लाहौर में खुलेआम घूम रहा है। उसने वहा कई रैलिया आयोजित कर अमेरिका और भारत के खिलाफ बयान दिया है

मुस्लिम समुदाय नहीं छोड़ेग

बाबरी मस्जिद की विवादास्पद जमीन का एक इंच हिस्सा भी मुस्लिम समुदाय नहीं छोड़ेगा, यह कहना है सांसद असादुद्दीन अवेसी का। मजलिस ए इटेहादुल मुस्लिमीन के अध्यक्ष सांसद ने कहा कि बाबरी मास्जिद मामले में मुस्लिमों को प्रत्येक कदम पर धोखा दिया गया है।   

48 घंटों में पहली 10 मंजिला इमारत निर्माण

 पहली 10 मंजिला इमारत इस कथन का प्रमाण है कि योग्यता की प्रखरता देश के लिए खुशहाली के रास्ते खोल सकती है। गुरुवार शाम 4.38 मिनट पर शुरू हुआ 10 मंजिला भवन निर्माण का प्रोजेक्ट 30 इंजीनियरों व 260 प्रतिभाशाली कर्मचारियों ने 48 घंटों में पूरा कर दिखाया।

शनिवार शाम 4.38 बजे सीनर्जी ट्रिलिंग्शटन कंपनी की ओर से साहिबजादा अजीत सिंह नगर, मोहाली में सैंपल बिल्डिंग के बतौर यह निर्माण कार्य पूरा हुआ। लिम्का बुक ऑफ रिकार्ड द्वारा इस कार्य के लिए पुरस्कार से नवाजे गए उद्यमी हरपाल सिंह ने कहा, 'गुरु नानक देव के प्रकाशोत्सव पर उन्होंने यह सपना संजोया था जो आज सच हो गया है।' उन्होंने अपनी टीम को न सिर्फ बधाई दी, बल्कि ढोल की थाप पर भंगड़े का रंग भी जमाया।

हरपाल ने कहा कि फैक्ट्री बिल्डिंग कासेप्ट मुख्य तौर पर स्टील आधारित इमारत का निर्माण करना है। पूरी इमारत में 80 प्रतिशत तक स्टील का ही इस्तेमाल है। सिर्फ नींव में सीमेंट व कंक्रीट स्लैब इस्तेमाल की गई हैं। दस मंजिला भवन में 1.5 मीटर तक नींव में कंकरीट की ईटें भरी गई है, जबकि सीमेंट व ईट निर्मित भवनों में नींव छह से सात मीटर भरनी पड़ती है। इस भवन की विशेषता इसका हल्कापन व मजबूती है। उन्होंने कहा, '48 घटे में 10 मंजिला बिल्डिंग बनाने के पीछे कोई प्रतियोगिता नहीं है, बल्कि यह हमने सैंपल बिल्डिंग तैयार की है।' कंपनी के बिजनेस हेड यशबीर सिंह ने कहा कि टाइम मैनेजमेंट के लिहाज से यह कामयाब तकनीक है। 80 फीसद सामान पहले तैयार होने के बाद इसे फिट और सेट करना कुछ घटों का खेल है। उन्होंने बताया कि दस मंजिला बिल्डिंग का सामान तैयार करने में दो माह लगे हैं और नींव इससे भी पहले भर ली गई थी। 50 इंजीनियरों की टीम ने इस इमारत को तैयार करने में कड़ी मेहनत की है। टीम के सभी सदस्य आइआइटी व आइआइएमएस के छात्र रहे हैं i

Namdhari plotted murder to stash Ponty Chadha's 200 crore.??

New Delhi: Sukhdev Singh Namdhari is suspected to have stashed Rs 200 crore, handed over by Ponty Chadha just before a tax raid. He is also said to have been responsible in creating circumstances for an aggressive encounter between the Chadha brothers.

“It was alleged after the tax raids that Ponty was tipped off by a contact in the IT department. No cash was found, causing acute embarrassment to the tax sleuths. However, police sources suspect the alleged stash of Rs 200 crore was handed over to Namdhari for safekeeping,” said a report published in the Times of India. 

“Ponty is also suspected to have made large real estate deals in Namdhari's name, including a 50-acre purchase in Uttarakhand. Police now want to find out whether the thought of having to return the cash and properties to Ponty made Namdhari plot against him,” the article added. 

Police also believe the sacked minorities commission chairman of Uttarakhand deliberately killed Hardeep Singh Chadha, the younger brother of Ponty Chadha.

According to another report from the Hindustan Times: “Namdhari never made eye contact with the police during interrogation and never showed any emotion. Namdhari had helped Ponty in grabbing over a dozen properties in Uttarakhand 

“Monty Chadha's PSO Satnam, who was arrested on Thursday, said Namdhari was pressuring Ponty to act against his brother,” according to the report. 

Namdhari has admitted that he wanted to play the pivotal role in Ponty’s businesses and the fact that he wanted to come out of the former’s shadow.

Mumbai: MBA student jumps to death over her 'secret' marriage

Mumbai:    An MBA student allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the sixth-floor of a building in suburban Santacruz, apparently after her family asked her to sever ties with her boyfriend whom she secretly married in a temple, police said on Monday. According to the police, 24-year-old Sonal Bagade had left a suicide note written in Marathi on Sunday for her mother and relatives in which she had apologised for being...........................................

Ajmal Kasab hanged

Mumbai: Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, 25, the only terrorist caught alive during the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai, was hanged at Pune's Yerwada Jail at 7:30 this morning. It was a swift and secret execution, just two weeks after President Pranab Mukherjee rejected his mercy petition. Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who said it was all in a day's work, told NDTV that not one of his Cabinet colleagues knew that Kasab would be hanged today and would have learnt of it from TV. 
 
A few hours after he was hanged, Kasab's body was buried at the Pune jail. Pakistan's interior minister Rehman Malik  told NDTV that no request had been made by Kasab's family for repatriation  of his body. "As and when such a request is made, we will approach India accordingly," he said. A Pakistani human rights activist, Ansar Burney, has now offered to claim the terrorist's body, "on humanitarian grounds."
 
Soon after Kasab was hanged, Mr Shinde said India had informed the Pakistan government yesterday about Kasab's hanging, but, he said, Islamabad had refused to acknowledge the letter that was both couriered and faxed through its high commission in Delhi. Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid said it was faxed after India tried repeatedly and unsuccessfully, to give it to Pakistan by hand.
Pakistan has refuted this saying it has "received and acknowledged" India's note. India's foreign ministry  sources say Islamabad did, however, accept its request for enhanced security for Indian diplomats in Pakistan.



Sources said the government also sent word about Kasab's execution by a special letter to an address in Pakistan that the terrorist had given as that of his family. Kasab, who was informed on November 12 that he would be hanged, had reportedly requested that his mother be informed about it. He had no other last wish and left no will. 

The President rejected Ajmal Kasab's mercy petition on November 5, Mr Shinde said. Paperwork between Delhi and Mumbai done, Kasab was moved from his bullet-proof, secure cell in Mumbai's Arthur Road jail to Pune on Monday. The Yerwada jail is one of two in Maharashtra equipped to handle execution by hanging.

The process thereafter was kept top secret, with even the most senior officials informed only on a need to know basis. "These are sensitive matters...we managed to keep it secret," Mr Khurshid said. 
 
Mr Shinde was more specific. He said his department kept the execution plan under wraps since it did not want to encounter pressure from international NGOs or "someone moving Supreme Court. "It is my nature that I maintain secrecy on such things. I am trained to be a policeman," Mr Shinde, adding that none of his cabinet colleagues or UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi knew about the execution happening today. "They would have got to know from television when channels started reporting this morning," he said

An hour after Kasab was hanged today, Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil made an official announcement saying, "I sincerely believe this is a tribute to all innocent people and the officers who lost their lives in the Mumbai attacks." 


This evening, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said India has set an example of the rule of law through the trial and execution of Kasab when even the United States never tried Al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden for the 9/11 attacks. 


"The majesty of the Indian justice system has been upheld. We have done better than the Americans, who could not try Osama bin Laden and had to liquidate him. But we went through the due process of law," Mr Chavan told  an exclusive interview. 

The chief minister said keeping Kasab's execution confidential was the biggest challenge. "I was worried about another adventure by Pakistan for publicity or that somebody opposed to capital punishment would move court," he said.

The execution comes one day before the Winter Session of Parliament begins and five days before the fourth anniversary of a day that will haunt Mumbai for many days. Mr Shinde says not too much should be read into those details. Mr Khurshid said India's message to the world was that "India stands by the rule of law." 
 
166 people were killed over three days of terror, when 10 men from Pakistan sailed into Mumbai in November 2008. They split into pairs and spent 72 hours targeting the city's landmarks. A hospital was attacked; so was a Jewish centre. Kasab was the only terrorist who was caught alive.

 
While it has been established that Kasab belonged to Pakistan, Islamabad has continued to deny that there was any state involvement in the massive terror attack planned and executed by the deadly terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba. 

The abiding image of Kasab - captured by a photographer at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station - is of him in T-shirt and cargo pants, strapped with ammunition and holding a deadly Kalashnikov rifle. On 26/11, his partner Ismail and he attacked the station first, killing 52 people and wounding more than 100.

They then escaped, hijacked a police vehicle after fatally shooting three senior policemen - Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar - and drove for a distance before being brought to halt at Girgaum Chowpatty by a flat tyre. Ismail, who was driving was killed in gunfire. Kasab, who was wounded, got out of the car and pretended to be dead. An unarmed Assistant police inspector Tukaram Ombale approached him and when Kasab suddenly pulled his gun on him, grappled with the terrorist, holding on to his rifle, and ensured that he was captured alive by other cops, before succumbing to his injuries. 

Since his arrest in 2008, Kasab was kept in a high-security bulletproof cell in Mumbai's Arthur Road jail. He had moved the Supreme Court on February 14 this year against the High Court verdict of October 10 last year, which upheld a lower court order sentencing the terrorist to death. The lower court had pronounced its judgement on May 6, 2010, 18 months after he was captured.

Kasab's mercy petition was filed first with the Maharashtra Home Ministry, which rejected it in September, and forwarded it to the Union Home Ministry. Then, in October, the Home Ministry recommended that President Pranab Mukherjee reject his plea.

In his plea before the Supreme Court Kasab had said that he had not been given a fair trial. But the Supreme Court had rejected that contention and Justice CK Prasad had observed, "I am more than certain that the planning and conspiracy to commit the crime were hatched in Pakistan, the perpetrators of crime were Pakistani trained at different centres in that country, and the devastation which took place at various places in the city of Mumbai, were executed by the appellant in furtherance thereof."

There had been an overwhelming demand among people in India since 2008 that Kasab be executed for his role in the Mumbai attacks. Also, as Kasab's trial continued, the cost of keeping him alive had been a huge burden on the state exchequer. 

While the Government has spent over Rs. 5 crore on his high security cell at Mumbai's Arthur Road jail, his security, entrusted to the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), has cost the state several crores.
